A tool screw holds the carbide insert in its pocket by preload: the resulting friction resists the cutting force. Tool screws are chosen by socket size rather than head size, and 15IP sits above the 8IP used on smaller inserts. The larger socket carries more torque, which matters because clamp force on the insert is set by the screw, not by the pocket geometry.
installed by torqued to the tool maker's value.
Take the torque from the insert and holder data, not from a general screw table; the 15IP socket tolerates more torque than the insert seat can.
| Thread Size | M4 × 9mm |
|---|---|
| Drive Type | Torx Plus 15IP |
| Standard | GB/T 3098.1, ISO 16047 |
| Drive | star recess |
| Installation | torqued to the tool maker's value |
| Typical substrate | indexable carbide inserts |
| Key inspections | head cone, recess, thread gauging, hardness |
Head cone angle and recess are checked on a profile projector, threads gauged 6g on every part.We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
