It is worth stating plainly that class 14.9 is not part of GB/T 3098.1 or ISO 898-1, whose highest standard class is 12.9 (about 1220 MPa). 14.9 is a purchaser-supplier agreement grade with a nominal tensile strength around 1400 MPa, and it demands cleaner steel, tighter heat treatment and more careful surface finishing than any standard class.
Material: Customized per specification. It is set to the torque the measured clamp-force curve supports.
Do not assume a 14.9 grade exists as a catalogue item; confirm the design basis before specifying it.
| Material | Customized per specification |
|---|---|
| Surface Treatment | As required |
| Standard | GB/T 3098.1 (reference), GB/T 3098.17 (hydrogen embrittlement) |
| Installation | set from measured torque/clamp-force data |
| Typical substrate | high-output connecting rods |
| Key inspections | tensile strength, hydrogen embrittlement, decarburisation |
Tensile, yield, elongation and impact energy against the agreed specification. We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
