A pre-applied sealant targets the thread clearance. 65Mn is quenched and tempered for good elasticity at low cost but needs zinc or black oxide in damp conditions. Austenitic stainless resists corrosion but has no magnetic response and a lower modulus, so the same deflection gives less preload and a steel part cannot simply be swapped for it.
Material: Spring Steel 65Mn / Stainless Steel 304. It is threaded in so the coating fills the thread clearance.
For corrosive service choose stainless and recalculate deflection for the lower modulus; for high preload at low cost use 65Mn with zinc plating, but not in marine air.
| Material | Spring Steel 65Mn / Stainless Steel 304 |
|---|---|
| Surface Treatment | Zinc-plated / Black oxide |
| Standard | GB/T 197, GB/T 4208 (IP rating) |
| Installation | threaded in, coating filling the clearance |
| Typical substrate | housing threads and end caps |
| Key inspections | leak tightness, coating coverage, prevailing torque |
Coverage and thickness are checked microscopically, with gauging to confirm the coating does not block the thread. We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
