A star recess has six curved lobes, and the bit contacts the walls over an area rather than at four points. For the same torque the pressure on each lobe is lower, so the recess survives longer — a decisive advantage at M1 scale, where a chewed recess scraps the part. The lobed shape also self-aligns: the bit slides into position even with a small angular offset.
installed by star bit in an electric driver.
Match bit to recess type: an enhanced recess with a standard bit has too little engagement height and will cam out.
