Locking nuts fall into two families. One uses an elastic element — a spring washer or nylon collar — to maintain clamp force; the other uses controlled interference in the thread, such as a slotted and crimped top, which produces a steady prevailing torque as the nut is run down.
Material: Spring Steel 65Mn. It is tightened with a torque wrench.
On plastic, aluminium or wood, prefer an elastic-compensating design; extra torque alone crushes the part.
| Material | Spring Steel 65Mn |
|---|---|
| Surface Treatment | Black oxide / Zinc-plated |
| Standard | ISO 2320, GB/T 3098.2 (nut properties) |
| Head style | hex head |
| Drive | slotted |
| Installation | torque wrench |
| Typical substrate | automotive, construction, curtain wall |
| Key inspections | prevailing torque, crimp dimensions, hardness |
Prevailing torque is sampled to ISO 2320, recording first removal. We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
