A rivet stud is the mirror image of a rivet nut: it provides an external thread instead of an internal one. The sealant only holds if the stud stays pressed against the sheet, and the spring section supplies that preload. Where sheet thickness varies within a lot, the spring travel absorbs the variation instead of the sealant, which would otherwise open a gap as the stack relaxes.
installed by set from one side with a rivet-stud tool.
Stud length equals panel thickness plus assembly space plus nut thickness plus a couple of threads of margin; too short leaves too few engaged threads.

| Standard | GB/T 17880 series (setting), GB/T 197 |
| Installation | set from one side with a rivet-stud tool |
| Typical substrate | sheet metal and extrusions |
| Key inspections | thread gauging, perpendicularity, push-out |
External threads are gauged 6g on every part; perpendicularity is sampled with a square or CMM.We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
