Product overviewOverview

The value of an aluminium insert is expansion matching. A steel insert in an aluminium base expands differently, so temperature swings load the interface and can loosen the insert or crack the base over many cycles. 6061-T6 tracks the aluminium base closely, keeping interface stress low — useful where temperature fluctuates.

Material: 6061-T6 Aluminum Alloy. It is heat-staked into the boss, or bonded in place.

Key featuresFeatures

  • 6061-T6 matches aluminium expansion, limiting interface stress in thermal cycling.
  • About one third the density of steel, supporting lightweight structures.
  • Same family as an aluminium base, avoiding galvanic couple.
  • Anodising adds corrosion resistance and electrical insulation.

Typical applicationsApplications

  • Thin-wall aluminium structures
  • Carbon-fibre composite attachment points
  • Drone and aerospace lightweight frames

Selection notesSelection

Load capacity is below a steel insert; compensate with greater length or diameter in highly loaded joints.

Frequently asked questionsFAQ

How do I specify the Aluminum Alloy Inserts?
Load capacity is below a steel insert; compensate with greater length or diameter in highly loaded joints. Material: 6061-T6 Aluminum Alloy. It is heat-staked into the boss, or bonded in place.
What matters during installation of the Aluminum Alloy Inserts?
Heat-stake it into the boss, or bond it in place. 6061-T6 matches aluminium expansion, limiting interface stress in thermal cycling.
