A star recess has six curved lobes, and the bit contacts the walls over an area rather than at four points. The TORX PLUS lobe is closer to square than a standard star, so the bit contacts more of the flank and the recess floor sees lower stress for the same torque. The trade-off is that a standard star bit will not enter the recess at all.
Material: SWRCH18A / SUS302HQ. It is driven with a star bit.
Match bit to recess exactly; mixing the two damages both. On automated lines, change the bit with the part and verify torque on the first article.

Bit-and-screw driving trials record recess wear after 1,000 cycles.Alternative materials and finishes can be quoted side by side during sampling, so cost and corrosion resistance can be traded off explicitly.
