Joint strength comes from the expanded body bearing on the hole wall and the rivet head clamping the panel. Hole size and grip range must match: an oversized hole reduces expansion and shear strength, while a panel thicker than the grip range prevents the tail from forming. Countersunk heads need a matching countersink for a flush finish.
installed by set from one side with a rivet tool.
For shear-critical joints use steel or stainless bodies; aluminium suits light duty and visible surfaces.
