ESD Anti-Static Bit

ESD-safe bits with 10⁶–10⁹ Ω surface resistance for semiconductor and precision electronics work.

Product overviewOverview

An ESD bit provides a controlled path for static charge. Charge built up on a person or tool can discharge into a device at several kilovolts, enough to rupture the gate oxide of a MOS device. A conductive coating bleeds the charge to ground slowly enough that the voltage rise stays below the damage threshold.

Material: S2 Alloy Steel + ESD coating. It is installed by grounded ESD workstation driver.

Key featuresFeatures

  • Surface resistance in the 10⁶–10⁹ Ω dissipative range.
  • Coating covers shank and tip to give a continuous drain path.
  • S2 steel body keeps hardness and service life comparable to standard bits.
  • Works with a grounded ESD workstation; grounding is part of the system.

Typical applicationsApplications

  • Semiconductor packaging and test
  • Drive and storage device assembly
  • Precision sensor production

Selection notesSelection

An ESD bit only works in a grounded workstation; without the ground path there is nothing to drain to.

Frequently asked questionsFAQ

How do I specify the ESD Anti-Static Bit?
An ESD bit only works in a grounded workstation; without the ground path there is nothing to drain to. Material: S2 Alloy Steel + ESD coating. It is installed by grounded ESD workstation driver.
What matters during installation of the ESD Anti-Static Bit?
Seat the bit fully in the socket before applying torque; a partly engaged bit rounds the recess it was meant to drive Surface resistance in the 10⁶–10⁹ Ω dissipative range.

Manufacturing and inspection

Surface resistance is sampled with a high-resistance meter and standard electrodes. We recommend a pilot assembly at the actual torque and mating part before locking the process parameters for volume.
