Bonding Studs 1

Bonding stud with an extended shank: the shank is made to the thickness of the part it passes through, so the thread still stands clear after bonding.

Product overviewOverview

Load passes through the adhesive layer: it spreads tensile and shear forces from the fastener base into the substrate, avoiding the stress concentration a drilled hole creates. An extended shank is a length solution rather than a strength one: it lets the stud pass through insulation or a spacer and still present usable thread. Shank length and coaxiality with the bonded face are the two dimensions that decide whether the stud lines up with the mating hole.

Material: Carbon Steel / Stainless Steel. It is bonded with structural adhesive after the surfaces are prepared.

Key featuresFeatures

  • Length is made to the stack; coaxiality decides alignment.
  • Epoxy, acrylic or polyurethane adhesives selected to the substrate and duty.
  • Neither a hole nor a weld is needed, so the coating and the enclosure seal survive the attachment.
  • Force passes into the panel as shear through the adhesive layer, with no hole edge to concentrate stress.

Typical applicationsApplications

  • Rail interior panels
  • Curtain wall and decorative panels
  • Appliance exterior parts

Selection notesSelection

Give the stack thickness and the required thread protrusion together; specifying only overall length leaves the thread length to chance.

Frequently asked questionsFAQ

How is an extended bonding stud specified?
By stack thickness, required thread protrusion and coaxiality between shank and bonded face. Overall length alone does not define whether the stud will line up after bonding.
What matters during installation of the Bonding Studs 1?
Bond it with structural adhesive after preparing the surfaces. Length is made to the stack; coaxiality decides alignment.
